Advantages  by bus:

- you meet new people

- ideal for bigger groups

Advantages  by car:

- you are flexible and independent

- fit your own time schedule

- insurance is covered in the price

  PIECES OF ADVICE:

. It is better to rent houses in open neighborhoods, with parks, trees, and open spaces. Sometimes it is better to spend 5 dollars in taxis rather than living and sleeping in a place that looks great in photos shot during the daytime but it is awful at night.

THE WEST.A tour from Havana to Pinar del Rio and Vinales. Explore the Old City of Havana with its narrow streets and old buildings that constantly get renovated. Afterwards take a journey to Pinar del Rio and Viñales valley famed for its superb scenery. The tobacco fields you will see on the way are the principal fields of the tobacco industry.

THE CENTER: A tour from Havana to Cienfuegos. Explore first of all the Old City of Havana with its narrow streets and old buildings. Then continue your tour to its next stop – Cienfuegos. On the way you can drop into Las Terrazas, a biosphere reserve, protected by UNESCO. Cienfuegos was built in a beautiful bay of the same name and houses some impressive neoclassical architecture. Then your journey continues through the wonderful landscapes and lush green vegetation to Trinidad.

THE EAST:A tour from Santiago de Cuba to Baracoa, Guardalavaca and Holguin. After seeing the lovely town of Santiago de Cuba you will be taken to romantic Baracoa, the first Cuban city. Exciting trips into the nature of Cuban countryside will be followed by a journey into the city Guardalavaca, which is famous for its tempting beaches

Baracoa
Located at the eastern tip of Cuba, Baracoa may be the place that Columbus first landed in Cuba, and it was definitely the first Spanish settlement on the island. Set among palm trees and lush vegetation, Baracoa was cut off from the rest of the island by a range of mountains until the early 1960s. It's a great place to escape for days or weeks.

....................................................................
Don't expect to find much in the way of Cuban culture at the beach resorts - One exception to this rule is Playas del Este, a nice beach area about 10 mi/16 km east of Havana. Cuban vacationers can be found there in abundance, and activities range from diving to boat trips. Though the hotels in that area are far more humble than at the newer tourist resorts, a visit there does give you a better sense that you're truly in Cuba.
...................................................................

. Do you want to meet Cubans who can give you the best of the culture and traditions? Usually they are not in or around touristic areas. Ask to the landlord/landlady if they know a private tour guide who knows about Cuban History.

. A private guide? The best that can happen to you. Official tours are too crowded. There are some private guides who can make your vacations very special.

. Under the new Cuban laws there are serious restrictions about the rental. Ask to your landlord/ lady what is allowed or not. It is better for you and the family.

. Specially in summer time be careful with food and liquids on the streets.

.Cuban loves presents, and even when it is not compulsory it is a good idea to tip for a good service in the house or everywhere else. Don't waste your money but reward people who care about you.

. The Panataxis (in yellow & white) are the cheapest and possibly the most abundant. The have 55 55 55 painted at the doors.

. Normal precautions against robbers or thieves. But don't be paranoic.

. Guide Books? 30 % is not the way they say . 30%  partially true. Only 40 % is accurate. Most of them treat us like 'curiosities' or warning of almost everything or everyone.

.Cuban people rarely bargain, and it causes a bad impression to find someone who comes from a rich country who bargain for 5 dollars or so.
